Chartering a Yacht

Chartering a yacht is a great way to cruise with no expenses on your own boat. If you can’t spend more than some weeks a year cruising and chartering is certainly among the best options. You may also sail different boats in diverse and remote locations. All you have to do is to choose between sail and power. The size of you vessel will depend on the number of people chartering and your budget. Various types of charter packages available are also the main criteria which you should consider, apart from the choice of the type of boat, size and cost.

Flotilla usually includes 8/10 boats, where one, which is referred to as the lead boat, carries a captain, hostess and an engineer. The skipper should ensure that the guests on the other yachts in the flotilla have mastered the navigational skills and ship conducting abilities required providing help and advice where needed. The hostess is here to arrange the social events - meals out in the evening, lunchtime barbeques and the renowned last night party. And the engineer usually repairs the yachts while the vacationers will do their best to damage things as they train to sail.

The usual day of flotilla starts with the skipper of the lead boat holding a meeting presenting the route you are to make during the day and any navigational considerations along the way and then you’re actually pretty much on your own. You will see the lead boat at your evening destination where the crew awaits you to assist with mooring. It is a great thing to sail in company knowing that skilled help is never more than a VHF call away.

Skippered Charter

If you lack experience or just have no desire to bear any responsibility of steering the yacht or managing the navigation, the best option for you is a skippered charter. As it is clear from the name - you charter the boat and the skipper comes with it. You’re expected to gather the crew but skipper bears all the responsibility. Usually the level of contribution of the vacationers is up to them. Nearly all skippers are flexible enough to let the customers as much involvement as they wish.
